Upgrading from 1.2.1 to latest Version

Hi,

Can you give some tips or guidance about upgrading from version 1.2.1 to the latest version?

The site was originally created by an outside agency, so we bought the theme ourselves to upgrade. Previous agency did not create a child theme and instead did all the editing within the main theme folder.

Wanted to make sure that all settings and functionality would remain the same (if possible or at least close) after upgrade.

first of all make a backup, just in case.
